DESIGN CHALLENGE PROJECT

中央美院微软设计挑战竞赛项目 CAFA Media Lab / Central Academy of Fine Arts / Beijing

02th June – 06th June

On Monday, three groups of students have made wonderful project report to all people from Microsoft and teachers, and the report has made anticipated effect and received high appraisal! Finally, the Taichi Group beats the other two groups, will participate in Seattle's finals on behalf of CAFA this year. In addition, in view of the report skill as well as the whole effect, Dave gave some constructive suggestions as follows:

Subject: notes on presentations

Here are some notes I made while watching the presentations. Of course my Chinese is not good enough to really evaluate the content.

Davevr's notes from the presentations.

Team Tiger
· Better coordination among the rules of different speakers
· Some minor English errors in slides
· "What is subject"-> What is the subject or What is our subject?
· When you lose your train of thought in presentation, just go with it
· Design process slide is pixilated and bad quality
· Main presenter Girl with the white shirt (Shunshun?)did a good job presenting in terms of voice, but should practice enough that you do not need to constantly refer to notes
o Should give public speaking advice
· Slide background (green boxes) is kind of boring – how about a tiger??
· Seems like a lot of going back and forth in slides – not sure what the issue was there
· Girl with yellow shirt (Xiaoxue?)needs presentation help – not very confident, doesn't look at the audience
· Other girl (zhang li?) pretty good, but needs to talk slower
· Flow charts not clear – pixilated text?
· The demo should run full-screen, not in a window
· Better if the billing was dragging the card to an amount
· Movie speed in scene two is too fast
· Solution presentation is quite good

Team Tai Chi
· Need better set-up, should be prepared
· Very nice presenter – good confidence, moves around, uses hand gestures
· First slide ties into the theme very nicely
· Nice slide graphics
· Need some minor English correction on slides
· T-Shirts are fantastic!
· Should switch-off during presentation to give each speaker a chance
· Graphs on "The Forth Time" slide are incorrect (and Fourth is spelled wrong)
· Fifth is spelled "Firth" on the next slide
· Overall story is very clear
· Slide showing other users of the technology are very good
· Storyboard slides are too small – you can make them full screen
· Discussion of the technology is interesting. It would be great to show an actual product
· I wonder if the fan menu can have more calligraphy, less boxes.
· Demo of animated figure is too small – can make that larger, full-screen, and also maybe shorter.
· Again, work out the AV issues.
· I love the voice-over for kitsch value on the demo video

Team Dating
· Need to introduce the entire team when you start (did I miss that?)
· Work on smoothness of flow
· I like the heart-shaped slide – very cute!
· Need to speak loudly and more clearly
· Good demonstration of iteration
· When presenting a subject like dating where there is risk people might not take it seriously, it is important to be very confident in your presentation
· Be sure to turn off your phones during presentations
· When discussing detailed flow, it is good to step through the flow cart or wire frame with highlighting step-by-step for clarity.
· Some minor English errors on slides
· LOVE the paper prototype
· Good that you show it on the phone
· Flash demo is very nicely done overall but I found the music distracting – also, need to make this look correct when you project on the full screen – the graphics in the flash demo and the text were both heavily aliased.
· Need a more clear conclusion – I wasn't sure it was over.
